Butterfly Pinning and Mounting Class

Join Morbid Orchid Co and Esquina Chicago for another awesome convergence of science and art. Learn the basics of pinning Lepidoptera (butterflies) and leave with your very own specimen. All materials will be provided. The butterflies used for this are responsibly sourced from a respected and reputable insect farm.

    Have a sewing machine but not sure how to use it? This class is for you.

    What you will learn:
    • The parts of your sewing machine
    • How to wind and insert a bobbin
    • How to change your needle
    • How to thread your machine
    • How to select stitches and what the different types of stitches are used for
    • How to sew straight lines and curves

    At the end of the class you will have a sampler of the stitches available on your machine.

    What you need to bring:
    • Sewing machine in good working order, power cord and foot control/pedal
    • User Manual for the machine
    • Two empty bobbins (be sure they are the correct size and type for your machine)
    • 1 spool of dark colored polyester thread (Gutermann Sew All, Coats and Clark Dual Duty or Mettler Metrosene are best)
    • 1 small pair of scissors or thread snips to cut your thread

    What we supply:
    • Needles for your machine
    • Fabric for practice and your stitch sampler
    • Practice pages for sewing straight lines and curves
