  • A Beginner’s Guide to Being Dead

    Well, you’re dead; now what?

Despite death (one’s own or that of someone else) being an unavoidable experience, most of us truly don’t know what to actually do in the event of someone’s demise. How do you make your final wishes known? How can you make arrangements easier for your survivors? What happens if someone dies far from home? How much does it cost to be buried? Is a viking funeral legal? What do I need a death certificate for? ARE HAUNTINGS A THING?

Let’s ask someone who knows what goes down when our number is up:

Christy Chiappone has been a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer for over 20 years. She is involved with all aspects of the job, from collecting and transporting the departed from where they have died, embalming, guiding families as they make arrangements, and directing funerals. At this event, she will discuss and answer questions about her job, what roles family members have after a death, what the city requires, choices in regards to burial, and SO much more. Christy’s goal tonight is to help educate folks, dispel myths, and make talking about death and dying more acceptable in mainstream culture.

*Light refreshments will be available. Please note, you will need to use a short set of stairs to access the venue. Photo by Annie Spratt on Unsplash

  • Reiki Level 1
    12:00 pm-4:00 pm

4602 N Western Ave, Chicago, IL 60625, USA

4602 N Western Ave, Chicago, IL 60625, USA

    February 23 from 12-6pm

The Reiki attunement opens and expands the main energy channels of the body, allowing universal energy, also known as Qi/Chi/Ki, to flow more freely. This process opens the crown, heart, and palm chakras and creates a special link to source energy. It raises the vibration of the body so that the life force energy can flow through more freely. A detoxing process begins and the attunement clears energetic blockages in the body and field. As a result, there are significant energy changes within the individual and many undergo a significant period of self-growth.

Level 1 is open to anyone. The focus is to open energy channels on a physical level, allowing the student to connect more deeply to universal life force energy. Self-Reiki for self care is the main goal and participants are encouraged to practice Reiki on themselves, thereby entering into a relationship of healing yourself first. This is also a great first step for those also looking to become a practitioner and is encouraged for those already working with other healing modalities. It’s also a great compliment for self-care for those working with yoga, counseling, massage therapy, essential oils etc.

At the end of the training participants are able to perform Reiki on themselves as well as practice giving Reiki to friends and family.

    Level I Group Class Rate – $165
    Reduced Rate – $150

    RSVP to
OR place a $25 deposit to hold your space

Training manual and materials will be sent once deposit is received.

–> REIKI is also great for….
Yoga Teachers, committed Yogis, Bodywork Practitioners, and others who work in the alternative healing arts (essential oils, homeopathy, life coaches, counselors etc)

Reiki and Yoga used together can lead to a deepening of the practices of both. Yoga can help a person understand Reiki in a much deeper way. While Reiki helps a person understand the deeper energies of Yoga. In Sanscrit yoga means “union”, a union between mind, body and spirit. This union is enhanced by the powers of Reiki energy. Yogis can use it before, during, and after their practice to help them ground their intention and find more advanced healing in their practice. Yoga teachers can use it to enhance adjustments and the student’s class experience.

Bodywork helps release physical tension by working with the muscles, fascia, joints, and circulatory system. Reiki can take that work a step further by opening the channels of the energy body which boosts the effects of the bodywork on the physical body. By working in tandem with the body’s energy system this can set up deeper and lasting change in healing patterns held in the body.
